The 12 days of Christmas are much more than turtle doves, partridges in pear trees, and other festive fowl. Rather, restaurants and bars have adopted their own takes on the festive ditty, using it as inspiration for cocktail specials, burgers, and more. While the traditional medley focuses on merry birds, Level Two concentrates on something more important for its 12 Days of Christmas menu: cocktails. The restaurant’s 12 Cocktails of Christmas features a dozen special holiday cocktails available December 14 through December 25, each one showcasing seasonally apropos ingredients befitting a holiday tipple. The drinks include Cinnamon Old Fashioneds (housemade cinnamon bitters, XO Rum, simple syrup), Gingerbread Martinis (gingerbread syrup, vanilla vodka, Bailey’s Irish Cream, and Kahlua), Stingers (White Crème de Menthe and Dusse VS), Cable Car Cocktails (Sailor Jerry, Grand Marnier, simple syrup, and lemon), Nuts and Bolts (housemade walnut bitters, Carpano Antica, St-Germain, Aperol, FEW White Whiskey), Cranberry Old Fashioneds (cranberry bitters, whiskey barrel bitters, simple syrup, Buffalo Trace bourbon), Naughty or Nice Spiced Cider (cloves, green cardamom, black peppercorn, and star anise), Gin Flips (egg yolk, Orgeat syrup, Bombay dry gin), Bistro Side Cars (Tuaka, Frangelico, Dusse VS, simple syrup, orange juice), Sugar Plum Martinis (plum bitters, Petal and Thorn Vermouth, Tito’s vodka, simple syrup), Death by Chocolate (Godiva Dark Chocolate Liqueur and steamed milk), and Purple “Pear”adise (pear puree, St. George Pear Brandy, Grafignia Malbec float, and simple syrup). As I always say, burgers are the French hens of the food world. So head to Poag Mahone’s Carvery and Ale House this holiday season to partake in some appropriate Christmas-y burger specials as part of the bar’s 12 Burgers and Beers of Christmas series. December 8 through December 23, each day brings a new burger and beer combo, the latter of which is a rare beer surprise on hand in limited quantities each day. Burger specials include the Hot Mama Burger with grass-fed beef, pepper Jack cheese, fried jalapeños, pickled red onions, chipotle BBQ sauce, and sriracha glaze on a pretzel bun. Rare beers are to be announced on Poag Mahone’s social media outlets, so stay attuned! Another festive beer series is taking place at The Boundary in the form of a 12 Beers of Christmas Flight. Available December 2 only, this holiday flight includes a handful of Christmas-y brews in four-ounce tasting portions of Lagunitas Brown Shugga, Anderson Valley Winter Solstice, Shiner Holiday Cheer, Great Lakes Christmas Ale, Revolution Fistmas, and more.
