Ven Pongal Ven Pongal is a traditional south indian dish prepared during pongal festival, served as a special dish on auspicious occasions, also offered to god at temples during several puja/festival days.  It is a popular dish in south indian homes & a regular breakfast meal in south Indian families. This is a dish similar to a khichdi, also known as khara pongal. This dish prepared with rice & yellow moong dal. Fresh curry leaves & ghee is a must for this dish. Ingredients:  1/4 cup moong dal   1 cup rice   1 tsp asafoetida  1/2 tsp cumin seeds  1/2 tsp mustered seeds  1/2 tsp black pepper powder   1 tbsp cumin powder   2 tbsp ghee   5-6 curry leaves  8-10 cashew nut   6 cups water  Salt to taste  Method: 1. Wash & drain rice, dal together. 2. Heat ghee in the cooker, add mustered seeds, cumin seeds & curry leaves. 3. Now add rice & dal. 4. Fry until the ghee forms a coat over the mixture. 5. Add other ingredients except cashew nuts. 6. Add water & cook it covered. 7. Deep fry cashew nuts. 8. Stir occasionally till the rice gets fully done. 9. Garnish with fried cashews & serve hot.
