Fruit and Nut Bars

The absence of white sugar in these bars appealed to me when I found the recipe. I played with it a bit to reduce the fat content and make them more healthful but just as tender and delicious as the original. The mix of dried fruits gives these a natural sweetness that is just wonderful. You can replace the cinnamon and nutmeg with an equivalent amount of Baking Spice Blend Mix. Noe that the preparation time includes time to cool the dried fruit mix after simmering, so it is not as labor intensive as the times imply.)
