This tastes like Thai style red curry plus the yummy hing ( asafoetida) flavor. Easy to prepare and delicious over rice or with south Indian idlies.

Ingredients

  • shrimp, raw, 32 oz deveined and shelled, raw frozen 2 lbs bag - remove the tail and rinse well.
  • coconut, raw, 1 cup, shredded
  • dry red hot chili peppers, 4 peppers, browned in a drop of oil in a pan for flavor.
  • tamarinds, 1 fruit (3" x 1") or quarter spoon of tamco tamarind paste from indian grocery stores.
  • asafoetida / hing powder, 0.5 tsp for garnish
  • olive oil, 1 tbsp for garnish
  • salt, .5 tsp or to taste.
