This is, by far, my grandson's most favorite food in the world! Although the recipe is very basic, I have adapted several recipes that I have tried over the years and have come up with this one as my final favorite.

  • 1 (4 -5 lb) pork butt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 fresh garlic cloves (sliced in 1/8 inch slices)
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce (i make my own but store-bought is ok, your favorite)
  • 1 (12 ounce) beer (i like an amber ale)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 large onion (coarsely chopped. yellow is ok, i prefer white and i hear red is also good)
  • 1 tablespoon basil (my favorite is greek basil because of the aroma)
